Ruchira Kamboj is the Ambassador & Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO-Paris. She was formerly the Chief of Protocol to the Government of India, and was the first woman in the Indian Foreign Service to hold this position. Kamboj joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1987 being the topper of her batch for that year. She has served as the Deputy Head in the office of the Commonwealth Secretary-General, London. Prior to that, she served as the Minister & Head, High Commission of India, Cape Town, South Africa. She has served as a Counsellor [5] in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York City. She has also served at the High Commission of India Mauritius and at the Indian Embassy in Paris. She has held the positions of Director/Deputy Secretary (Foreign Service Personnel) and Under Secretary (Europe West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. On September 25, 2013 Ruchira Kamboj was appointed as the Ambassador & Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO, Paris. Kamboj is married to a businessman from India and has one daughter.
